Recruiting and retaining the best people and putting the right talent in the right places continue to be high priorities for Army senior leaders, who said maintaining a good quality of life for soldiers helps achieve those goals. The Army must "compete for and retain talent," Lt. Gen. Gary Brito, deputy Army chief of staff for personnel, told the Senate Armed Services Committee's personnel subcommittee. "Manning the Army is a key component of readiness." Brito said the Army is working toward a 20% reduction in attrition during Initial Entry Training and a 15% reduction in attrition among soldiers who are within their first 36 months of service. "We are seeing significant improvements in attrition reduction efforts, and we expect to achieve our reduction goals by the end of the fiscal year," said Brito, who appeared before the committee alongside his counterparts from the other services.
