The Royal Charters of Faversham including the Magna Carta

Faversham in Kent possesses a fine collection of town charters, dating from 1252 to 1685, which are still in the care of the mayor and council, and this volume does them full justice. Moreover, the volume contains far more than an edition of the charters. It includes the town's copy of Magna Carta of 1300, probably requested from the crown in defence of their ancient rights, together with other documents which clarify the history of the town, such as the bond of 1295, which illustrates the expense of securing charters, the grant of the town mace in 1420, and documents concerning the foundation of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in the sixteenth century.
