This volume consists of two items. The larger of the two, edited by B.J. Davey, is an account of the justicing activities of Thomas Dixon of Riby, based on the notebooks that he kept from his appointment as a magistrate in 1787 to his death in 1798. The notebooks are supplemented by information from the press, parish officers' accounts and quarter sessions records. The second is a series of papers arising from the arbitration, conducted between 1830 and 1838, of a dispute between John Catton and Benjamin Thorold, the chronically indebted son of a local squire. They are edited by R.C. Wheeler.
