Victoria county history of Somerset, xi: Queen Camel and the Cadburys

No project in the United Kingdom makes a more extensive use of archives than the Victoria County History. To some the VCH's primary objective, which is to create an encyclopaedic record of every parish in England from prehistory to the present day, may seem outdated or even an exercise in antiquarianism. Yet, the VCH has continually demonstrated the value, and even the necessity, of extensive and rigorous archival research for illuminating numerous historical topics for all historical periods. A detailed understanding of local trends is necessary to properly explain wider developments. This volume, the eleventh for the county of Somerset, continues this fine tradition.
