Do you need to become a photo sleuth in the archives? This article attempts to outline the skills needed and how to develop them, as well as pointing to some online resources available. But it is also a case study, as the article narrates the journey to identify some of the individuals captured in a small family photograph album dating from the mid-twentieth century. A misleading account of the contents confused the search until an approach to a methodology was formulated in order to solve the mystery of the thin man and those who surrounded him.
