On any given night, about 50,000 people are homeless in Los Angeles-a number that has increased 5.7 percent since 2015. The situation has reached such a crisis point that Mayor Eric Garcetti recently declared a state of emergency. While many projects focus on providing long-term housing for the homeless, a studio at the University of Southern California's School of Architecture instead looked to make a more immediate impact with a design for a movable temporary shelter.
