In 2005, a 32-storey building in Madrid was destroyed by a fire. The event was deemed "Madrid's most important fire in its history" by Mayor Alberto Ruiz Gallardon. Temperatures of the fire reached nearly 1,500℉.~1 One year earlier, on December 6, 2004, an electrical fire occurred at the LaSalle Bank Building in downtown Chicago. Here, temperatures reached in excess of 2, 000℉, and the fire became the largest high-rise fire in the history of Illinois.
