S-M-L LOFT

A full-floor, 2,500-square-foot loft in Manhattan's S0H0 is the canvas for an interior renovation by Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Breitner Ciaccia—Office of Architecture. The space is bisected by a row of existing (and quintessentially) 19th-century cast-iron columns supporting a timber beam. An elevator at the southeast corner and a straight-run egress stair along the north wall were the only other immovable features, and the design team used them, along with a new kitchen, to direct the design, developing an industrial-inspired metal panel system to camouflage each and organize the programmed space throughout.
