Once an abattoir stood here, today the "Karree St. Marx" is oc-cupied by housing. Surrounded by block edge development, five urban villas stand on modelled terrain above permeable bases. You barely notice the high density. Geiswinkler & Geiswinkler were responsible for the intelligent urban planning as well as two of the buildings;the others are by Elsa Prochazka and quer-kraft architekten. Great aura The site has a great deal of charisma. From 1848 to the 1960s Vienna's first abattoir stood on the 200 × 200 metre site today known as the "Karree St. Marx". A branch of the training college for butchers is still located at number 3 Viehmarktgasse: the building that neighbours the housing slab with vertical gardens by Geiswinker & Geiswin-kler which describes a protective angle and defines one flank of the Karree St. Marx.%Früher war hier Schiachthof, heute wird im Karree St. Marx sozial gewohnt. Eingefasst von einer Rand bebauung, stehen fünf Stadtvillen über durchlässigen Sockeln auf modelliertem Gelände: Die hohe Dichte spürt man kaum. Der kluge Städtebau und zwei Häuser stammen von Geiswinkler & Geiswinkler, die anderen von Elsa Prochazka und querkraft architekten. Große Aura Der Bauplatz hat viel Charisma. Von 1848 bis in die 1960er Jahre stand der erste Wiener Schlachthof am etwa 200 × 200 Meter großen, heutigen „Karree St. Marx". Noch immer befindet sich die Expositur für Fleischer in der Viehmarktgasse 3: Das Nachbarhaus des Wohnriegels mit den vertikalen Gärten von Geiswinkler & Geiswinkler, der winkelförmig als schützende Flanke das „Karree St. Marx" einfasst.
