Alexander Calder in Duesseldorf

Not quite as far away as Paris (see pp. 20 in this issue): in Düsseldorf, too, works by Alexander Calder are on exhibition. Under the title "Avantgarde in Motion", early sculptures by the American artist are surrounded by pioneering works by contemporaries such as Mondrian, Miro and Arp and augmented with art and documentary films, while the large mobiles and stabiles engage in a dialogue with experimental music from the 1920s. Calder himself experimented with different artistic directions and constantly sought stimuli to help him extend his boundaries.
