Suitable for the system Timber with a high level of pre-fabrication allows efficient modular building methods, with structures that can be erected and taken down with equal rapidity and then used further in a variety of very different ways. Systemised timber building offers advantages both in the short term, as regards building costs and the time needed for construction, as well as long term, beyond the building's own life cycle: the building can be demolished and re-erected somewhere else, or its elements can be employed for other functions. If the special spatial forms and functions of timber building are combined with glass, steel and concrete elements in a way that makes efficient use of the characteristics of the different materials, then there are hardly any rational reasons why carefully balanced hybrid building methods should not be declared the desirable mainstream in those countries that have plenty of forests.
