Kerselare Chapel

Encouraged by the successful completion of his own house, Juliaan Lampens took part, in 1961, and in collaboration with his former mentor and supervisor, Rutger Langaskens, in a national competition for a new pilgrimage chapel to replace the 16th century chapel of Our Lady of Kerselare that had recently burned down. The competition was commissioned by the church wardens with the support of the Centre for Modern Church Art that had been founded in the lobby of the Sint Lucas School of Architecture in Gent, as a point of convergence in the post-war debate on modern church architecture.
