As the southern-most private residence on the baja peninsula, perched above the sea on a rocky cliff face, Steven Harris Architects' 9,000-square-foot Weiss House rests in surroundings of breath-taking natural beauty. Composed of subdued tones and muscular forms, the building defers to its setting. Its two wings, which hug the perime-ter of the site, jut out of the cliff face to frame a central courtyard of rock formations, desert grasses, and cacti. But the Weiss House does more than just blend in; its natural lighting scheme interacts with the movement of the sun like a sundial. As Steven Harris puts it, "the house is calibrated to induce movement from one part of the house to the other depending on the time of day."
