Founded over a hundred years ago, the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS) has existed to promote a 'wider understanding of the nature of the Commonwealth and its people'. It is the charity responsible for the members' club once known as the Royal Commonwealth Club and now simply known as the Commonwealth Club. The club itself has always had an advantageous location, being in the heart of central London off Trafalgar Square, and is widely known amongst diplomatic circles both past and present. Owned and run by the RCS, it once occupied a whole string of buildings on Northumberland Avenue, offering all the essential elements of a traditional gentleman's club.
