In the laboratories of the Institute of Physics and Chemistry at the University of Southern Denmark, Martin Hanczyc has been creating simple protocells. Here he explains the principles behind the bottom-up synthetic biology and why a clear analogy can be made between architecture and the self-assembling protocell.
