Few people anticipated that the 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize would be awarded, for the first time in its 33-year history, to an architect based in China. Fewer still had heard of the winner, Wang Shu. Now, several months after being catapulted to international architectural stardom, Wang Shu remains characteristically philosophical about his work and just as critical of his profession.
