THE LAND OF SCATTERED SEEDS

The Land of Scattered Seeds (2001) is an architectural story presented in the form of a book. The modern-day tale creates a self-contained reality that develops the idea of integration of modern city life with planting and agriculture. The complex relationships of life - social, ecological or economic - are studied and developed in miniature through the lives of a colourful cast of characters and their surrounding environment. These relationships are then played out through space and structure, revealing surprising connections between the most disparate things and creating a dense cross-section of urban and rural activities. No hierarchy of scale exists in the work, the smallest detail providing as many possibilities as the city as a whole. The book was developed for the final Diploma project at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL) and has subsequently been exhibited internationally. A copy was purchased by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York for its collection.
