Kathryn Findlay is an architect, cook and an accomplished speaker, who talks without the aid of a script or even written notes. The principal of Ushida Findlay Architects, she founded the practice in 1986 in Tokyo with her then partner Eisaku Ushida. In 1999 the studio returned to the UK - to Edinburgh. Since 2004, she has been leading the practice independently from London. Through her work, Findlay promotes a generous treatment of space and construction that integrates the use of traditional natural and even living materials with contemporary high-tech materials and technologies. Peter Cook has described her work as 'digi-thatch'. Others have called it 'future-rustic'.
