The realities of today's economics, coupled with the possibilities now inherent in the latest design and construction technologies, have created a 'speed to construction' movement in architecture. This is not to say that the goal of building owners is to reduce the time the design takes, but rather that the start of construction has become a widely sought-after project milestone. As many owners look to reduce the overall duration of building projects, it has become increasingly prevalent for design time to be overlapped or integrated with construction time. When properly orchestrated, the integration of these phases can enhance both the design and the project as a whole, which becomes greater than the sum of its parts: a 1 + 1 = 3 model.
