Plant Consciousness: Towards an Architecture of Expanded Kinship

The human brain -constrained by evolution and its scientific self-image - often prevents us from seeing the wood for the trees. Looking at nonhuman and collective forms of perception can help us counter this; it can open our eyes. The application of ideas arising from phenomenology to architecture has attempted to address this question.1 Branching from existentialist philosophy, phenomenology's approach offers the benefit of foregrounding human perception and experience, a counterblast to the pervasive profit-driven, disembodied, mediated and excessively technophile forms of alienation that are making our world increasingly unfit for dwelling.
