New Solids and Massive Forms

摘要

Architecture as object is re-emerging. While modernity has considered the building form primarily as a compilation of planar and linear geometries, there is now a growing consensus to view building components as aggregated units of a larger digital whole, forming an architectural body that is no longer hollow and rational but solid and opaque. This new architectural object differentiates itself from an architecture of plain surfaces in that it is conceived as a tridimensional object of continuous surfaces, without an a-priori hierarchy or meaning attached to it. This object is a solid that allows an openness to different rules and readings as it only refers to itself.
