Experimental procedures to evaluate the fictive temperature (T_F) of synthetic silica glass were developed using ultrasonic microspectroscopy (UMS) technology by measuring longitudinal-wave velocity (V). Two kinds of commercial synthetic silica glass (without and with water) were demonstrated, resulting in the establishment of calibration lines between V_1 and T_F with a resolution within 1 ℃ and clear observation of their hydroxyl (OH) dependences. This ultrasonic method and system will be extremely useful and effective for improving mass-production conditions of glass ingots as well as for conducting basic studies on glass science.
