A two-dimensional model is presented simulating the combustion characteristics of a non-premixed natural gas flame under high strain. The model takes account of the turbulent flow characteristics, the reaction rates controlled by mixing and chemical kinetics mechanisms and heat transfer with convection and radiation. Three turbulence models, two two-equation models and one second order, are assessed and evaluated with respect to accurate prediction of the turbulence characteristics of the flame. The mechanisms that control the combustion phenomenon are analyzed. The computational results are compared with experimental data with satisfactory agreement.
