With supply chain agility intensifying in importance, apparel manufacturers recognize that the cutting room is a powerful influencer of cycle time. Rat-tern-making, marker-making and cutting operations also hold a big key to a firm's ability to flexibly change out styles, adjust to new order quantities and control quality. Doug Adams, manager of industry services for Cary, NC-based [TC], said technology is going to be a major driver for U.S. companies that want to do more of their production in the United States. For companies starting from scratch to set up manufacturing or those retooling existing plants, it makes sense to integrate the pattern-making, marker-making and cutting functions to avoid the inefficiencies of having islands of technology, said Adams.
