Discrete event simulation can help users understand various processes. A discrete event simulation tool can model any process described as a flow of events and can examine various aspects of the process to improve or optimize the elements and the process flow. Since the 1960s, companies have relied on simulation technology to identify bottlenecks and resource limitations and to determine the impact of automation or retooling in manufacturing. In the past 15 years, users have applied discrete event simulation to a wide variety of analyses, demonstrating the technology is flexible and powerful for the analysis of human processes, service problems, call centers, and traffic issues, to name a few.
