The decision whether a product or service should be made internally or obtained from a supplier should be based more on dollars and cents. In many cases, it's a strategic decision in the broadest sense because it reflects what you believe you do—and don't do—well. As a general rule, outsource (buy) what you don't do well and make what is critical to your business. While the make-buy process consists of several steps, we will focus on four of them here.
