The business press is flooded with articles about radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. The majority of them focus on recent mandates from large retailers, the anticipated costs and benefits associated with using RFID technology, and emerging technical standards. Commercial application of RFID technology is early enough in its infancy that it can be hard to get reliable statistics on how much is being spent on the technology in a given industry or segment of the supply chain, and related to any particular application.
