The Problem with Humility

Over the years, I have consulted for companies headed by people I would call geniuses. These people had an instinct for knowing the desires of the market and the ability to design products in their heads. This qualifies as genius to someone of my limited abilities. Geniuses come in two versions—humble and arrogant. Most of my experience has been with humble geniuses, and these experiences have not been good. The most memorable humble genius was the founder of a company that manufactured vehicle chassis, which the humble genius designed in his head. A customer wanted a 450 horsepower engine, more horsepower than any previous chassis.
