Several leading research and news organizations are finding slow-to-moderate growth in information technology (IT) spending and increased emphasis on improving returns on IT investments in 2005. Recent reports include the following: 1. "Worldwide IT Benchmark Report 2004" from the META Group, a provider of IT research and advisory services, predicts a "tepid" IT economy, with spending growing about 5 percent in 2005. It goes on to say that this level of annual growth is anticipated over the next several years. 2. A report from Forrester Research, an independent technology research firm, is slightly more bullish on the growth in spending, anticipating "modest" escalation. The company's "North American IT Spending in 2005" predicts IT spending in North America will grow by about 7 percent. 3. Leading news source Kennedy Information recently produced "IT Strategy and Planning: The Market for High-Value IT Consulting," which suggests that companies want to realize greater benefits and returns from their IT investments. It also notes that, as a result, IT strategy and planning consulting is more in demand now than ever before.
