Once seen as a one-time event or part of an annual planning process, supply chain network analysis is becoming an operations manager's ongoing and continuous focus. Many people are looking at their networks monthly—or more frequently—in order to have a sound basis for their business decisions. Network analysis can help company leaders make high-level strategic decisions regarding such issues as facility rationalization and transportation optimization, as well as address more tactical considerations, such as changing raw materials prices and plant slowdowns. Supply chain studies can examine more complex issues at a much deeper level than previous methods.
