A few years ago, a stressed out project manager working on a large enterprise resources planning (ERP) implementation had a problem. He had been directed to have a team implement an ERP package for a small, start-up division of a large industrial equipment supplier. However, he was already managing a large implementation project (12 teams, 120 people) that was behind schedule and over budget.
