ALMOST ALL PILOTS HAVE HEARD of the Flying Tigers and are familiar with their iconic nose art-an angry, beady-eyed shark on the attacking end of a Curtiss P-40B. But after flying a P-40 for the pilot report that appears on p. 50 ("Flying the American Dream"), I discovered that relatively few know who the Flying Tigers were and what they did. This is why I am digressing this month from my normal bill of fare to visit a fascinating slice of aviation history.
