Universalism and Extensionalism: A reply to Varzi

In a recent article in this journal, Achille Varzi (2009) argues that mereo-nlogical universalism (U) entails mereological extensionalism (E):n(U) Any non-empty collection of things has a fusion, i.e. something thatnhas all those things as parts and has no part that is disjoint from eachnof them.n(E) No two things have exactly the same proper parts (unless they arenatomic, i.e. have no proper parts at all).
