Are contingent facts a myth?

Hugh Mellor has, along with others, denied that there are tensed factsn(Mellor 1981, passim, but see especially 92–94). In Chapter 6 of thatnwork, Mellor presents what he regards as a version ofMcTaggart’s argument (McTaggart 1927) which uses utterances to dispose of tensed facts. In Mellorn1998 (78–81), Mellor gives a more detailed and extended version of thenargument, and it is this later version which is the subject of this article.
