Open Compact Exchange (OCX) architecture supports any interface or protocol, giving service providers the scalability to meet the demands of the carrier central office (CO) and the access edge of the network. The architecture can be extended and programmed to meet the emerging voice/data integration needs. According to the company, the public switched telephone network (PSTN) will be transformed to include integrated technologies, services and applications. TDM, IP and ATM must coexist with this new infrastructure.
