Small Systems to Tackle Disinfection By-products

During the nineteenth century, major outbreaks of waterborne disease were common in the United States and other developed nations. Cholera and dysentery were rampant in the 1800s, and as late as 1900 typhoid fever was responsible for about 25,000 deaths in the United States alone. As chlorine disinfection and other improvements in water treatment were applied in the early 1900s, the occurrence of waterborne disease outbreaks dropped dramatically.
