The 1996 amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) put a new emphasis on source water protection, consumer education and involvement, and increased funding opportunities. Operators of small public water systems should take advantage of this climate and prepare to get involved to the full extent necessary. Their voices have been heard, and the opportunities are here. Now is the time to act.
