My muscles were cramping, my breath was shortening, and my back was aching, but the driveway still shimmered with a seemingly endless expanse of snow. To make things worse, a sinister wind kept drifting the white stuff back into the same place I was trying to shovel. In my weakened state, my mind was feverishly recalling how many other days I had been likewise occupied. My brain kept telling me, "This is Denver, Colo., with 300 sunny days a year," but my cranky muscles kept responding, "Yeah, but the other 65 have been nothing but snow and ice."
