Shaping Regulations Through Public Involvement Opportunities

The 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) amendments man-dated an ambitious agenda for imple-mentation of new programs and issuance of new drinking water regulations. Public participation in the development and implementation of the SDWA is essential for the partnership ethic embodied in the act to be realized. To facilitate public involvement, the US Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA's) Office of Ground Water and Drinking Water (OGWDW) has committed to an open process of stakeholder meetings to inform and involve interested parties in various rule-makings.
