摘要

Many voices clamor for attention in a student's or new analyst's head during a session. In the service of adopting a "dispassionate attitude toward mental health," he must become a better listener of himself and his pa- tients. Bromberg (1984) suggests that as he progresses through training the supervisee develops an increasingly sensitive "third ear" which helps him to be more exquisitely attuned to the ever-shifting tenor of the analytic process. The "third ear" (Reik, 1949) refers to the capacity to be a fully engaged participant in the analytic situation while maintaining a wide per- spective of the entire analytic field-including his participation in it.
