UK companies are doing the business. That was the conclusion earlier this year from the annual Value Added Scoreboard produced by the Department of Trade and Industry. The Scoreboard aggregates data from worldwide companies in all sectors to show where value is being added through capital investment and research. The report makes a convincing case for there being a link between investment and profitability. And the UK, with 197 of the top 700 value-adding companies in this year's report, is doing well.
