Poland and India are just two of the countries from which qualified engineers are travelling to fill skills shortages in the offshore sector in Scotland. Chronic skills shortages in the oil and gas sector are having some startling repercussions for employment trends. Offshore companies big and small are having to trawl world markets to find engineers with the right technical capabilities for well-paid jobs in the North Sea industry. The result is an influx of talent from countries as wide apart as Poland and India.
