They've been clocking up the Air Miles at Brookhouse, the Lancashire-based composites engineering firm. The management team have been whizzing back and forth across the Atlantic in a concerted effort to win business from Boeing. All the jetlag and red-eye seem to have been worthwhile: Brookhouse is now on the verge of clinching work on the 787 Dreamliner programme. "We work with BAE and Airbus, and a lot of the tier-one aerospace suppliers like Saab, Smiths and Rolls-Royce," says Richard Thorley, Brookhouse's chief executive. "But we are not doing anything directly with Boeing. And that's a big gap in our artillery.
