My earliest meeting with Dr. Roman A. Ohrenstein may date to the fall of 1977 during one of the Atlantic Economic Association meetings held that year in Washington, D.C. There I learned about the interests we share in the history of economic ideas in general and about Ohrenstein's attempt to analyze the economic ideas presented (perhaps implicitly) in the canonical works of the Jewish theological writers. He may have already teamed up with Professor Barry Gordon of Australia by that time; their joint effort would produce an important work in 1992, Economic Analysis in Talmudic Literature: Rabbinic Thought in the Light of Modern Economics.
