In Memoriam

Frank C. Genovese died on April 28, 2014 at the age of 93- Long-time readers of this journal may remember that Dr. Genovese, with assistance from his wife Eleanor, was its editor-in-chief from 1989 through 1996. Her death was memorialized in the November 2007 issue of AJES. As a lifelong critic of special privileges and monopolies, Dr. Genovese wrote many articles on a wide range of topics, often publishing them in this journal. Topics he addressed included: agricultural price supports, industrial policy in the United States, Henry George's relationship to organized labor, and the work of Harold Innis. One of the major contributions Dr. Genovese made to the American Journal of Economics and Sociology during his tenure as editor was to begin the process of selecting a professional publisher that would both publish and distribute the journal. Eventually, Blackwell (later Wiley-Blackwell) was chosen by the governing board.
