摘要

There is considerable interest in the production of fuel ethanol from non-food sources such as corn stover, switchgrass and woody feedstocks. However, these feedstocks contain a significantly different composition than corn grain which contains about 72% starch and 9% protein, but only 3.3% cellulose and lignin.1 Corn stover, by comparison, contains about 37% cellulose and glucan, 28% other polysaccharides, 18% lignin, 3% protein and 5% ash.2 Subsequent pretreatment and fermentation of the lignocellulosic feedstocks leaves a residue enriched in lignin and ash.
