摘要

Eastern red cedar, a middle sized conifer with a pyramidalnshape, is native to the Eastern United States. Due to strong resiliencentowards various soil and climate conditions, eastern red cedar hasnbecome an invading species on the prairies, which has aggressivelynspread to the Midwest states. For example, in Oklahoma, more thannseven million acre land is covered by eastern red cedar1. Theninvasion of eastern red cedar leads to severe impacts on the localnecosystems, such as loss of native plants and birds, reduction ofnforage production and livestock handling, impacts on soil hydraulicnproperties 2. Last but not least, eastern red cedar contains chemicalncompounds that burn rapidly which makes it a susceptible to forestnfire. Currently the best control available to prevent eastern cedarnfrom encroaching the prairies is cutting the trees and then burningnthem.
