Experiments have been conducted to evaluate the potential of the BIGDIFF Debye-Scherrer diffractometer (radius of 573 mm) for characterizing ceramic materials using synchro- tron radiation. The instrucment has been tested at a wave- length of 0.1538 nm (1.5378 A), under in vacuo conditions, with standard reference materials and an alumina-matrix ceramic specimen using caplillary-mounted (diameter of 0.5 mm) powdered material.
