CPR President Kathleen Bryan spoke on two panels a Hong Kong mediation conference late last year. In both sessions at "Mediation in Hong Kong: The Way Forward," Bryan discussed expanding mediation use in complex commercial matters. The daylong Nov. 30 event was sponsored by several major players in Far East conflict resolution, including the University of Hong Kong, Chinese government authorities, and the conference host, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. First, Bryan spoke on a panel that provided background on mediation experiences in several jurisdictions. She joined panelists David Sandborg, a Hong Kong University law professor (and an Alternatives' editorial board member), and Fern Smith, former director of the Federal Judicial Center, and now a JAMS neutral in San Francisco.
