As part of a process of continuous improvement and development, it was recently announced that Newquay Cornwall Airport has appointed Morpho Detection, a UK subsidiary of Morpho (Safran) of France, to install the latest Standard 3 approved hold baggage screening (HBS) system. This will make Newquay the first UK airport to comply with EU and Department of Transport requirements mandated to be in place by September 2018. The new Morpho CTX5800 Explosives Detection System (EDS) capable of handling 400 bags per hour and oversize luggage, employs the latest HD-3D and detection technology to generate and deliver images of baggage contents down to the smallest details. Precise algorithmic calculations provide an increased ability to identify threats, reduce false alarm rates and lower operational costs. It is designed for areas of limited space and is ideal for smaller and regional airports and will replace Newquay's existing Standard 2 Rapiscan MVXR 5000.
